When the Soviet Union fell apart, a lot of the former communist East European countries fell into anarchy. Fighting broke out in various states resulting in hunger and rampant spread of diseases. Most of the residents of these countries live below the poverty line and have limited to no access to basic medical aide, some even resorting to selling themselves just to survive.
